Red Bud and DOB
Well, for once the weather in Buchanan Michigan cooperated. It was hot and humid, but no rain. The turnout was decent at about 425 for practice and 550 for the race. I didn’t count the number of states represented…but, I saw Ohio, Kentucky, Texas, Colorado, Wisconsin, South Dakota…. We even had 15 from Minnesota. The typical number is 2.
There were 23 riders in the 65+ class and a total of 44 in the over 60 classes. I think we are getting older. But still at it.
So we are off to Aztalan and the Dirty Old Blasters. I think this is 34th annual. I have attended every one, but missed racing once. Had a little mishap in practice, and ended up in the Watertown hospital for a couple of nights. Nice place by the way. When people ask me if I have spent time in the hospital from my racing, I tell them about Azzie. Their response is “I suppose that you don’t do that any more” . I agree, and tell them whenever I go through the whoops by the barn, I stay down the middle because there is a nasty kicker on the left.
All in all, I have alway enjoyed the folks in the Club. They have been supportive of the series from the beginning, and have given us a great track to ride. (well there was that year that they forgot to turn the sprinklers off overnight)
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: In case riders haven’t noticed, there is beginning to be a lot of guys getting hurt with paddle tires. They are generally great for starts, but not so hot on hard packed ground or ruts. We are seeing guys spinning out and or crashing in places where there is no reason for it to happen. A few of the crashes that I have heard about, were pretty bad, and by very experienced riders. Please think about your tire choice, as most of us need to go to work on Monday.
