RIP Harold

Heartbreaking News
Hello Motocross Friends,
It is with great sadness that I share the passing of our friend, Harold Gooch, on Saturday, May 30th, 2026.
Harold and his wife Cathy were camping in Grand Rapids, MN when Harold suddenly passed
from heart failure while out riding on his Mountain E-bike.
This comes as a shock to many, and I ask for your thoughts and prayers for Cathy, Dan, Michael and Annette as they suffer this terrible loss.
Harold’s journey on two wheels began at age 15 with a Suzuki, PE 175. He greatly loved
motocross, enduros, hare scrambles, road biking, mountain biking and snowmobiling. Harold
also accomplished many marathons over the years.
Over the course of nearly 60 years in motocross, Harold earned approximately 285 trophies and
competed in countless races and events. His passion for the sport began early and led him to
promote motocross at Elko Speedway in the early 1980s. Over time, his enthusiasm and
dedication only deepened. In recent years, he helped launch the Racer X Senior Motocross
website and sponsored various senior and veteran races. Harold was a dedicated, lifelong
supporter and advocate for promoting motocross, and his contributions to the sport will be
remembered for years to come.
Harold built many lasting friendships along the track, often saying his most memorable racing
series included Aztalan – Dirty Old Blasters, the Spring Creek Super Series, the Racer X
Veteran Series, and the AHRMA National Off-Road Series. Most recently, he was looking
forward to competing in the Millville Veterans Race and Old Man Madness later this month.
Harold was not only a talented motocross and woods competitor, a friend to so many, and a
leader in the VetMX Series—he was, above all, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud
grandfather to eight grandchildren.
Please join me in honoring and remembering a remarkable leader and teammate of motocross,
and a wonderful friend to so many of us. An obituary will be released soon with memorial and
service details.
